A cruise on the sea is not only beautiful but also something quite healthy. It would seem that a person is able to breathe clean, salty air, far from polluted megalopolises … But this is not at all the case.
“Breathing aboard a cruise ship is dangerous and unhealthy,” said Ryan Kennedy, head of research and author of the report, associate professor at the University Bloomberg School of Public Health.
According to him, the passengers of the liners do breathe the sea air, but on board the ship it is polluted just like in the center of Beijing or Santiago. This is evidenced by a study conducted by a group of scientists for two years on the main cruise ships of various companies.
In particular, among them were four vessels of the Carnival Corporation, which has already rushed to refute the data of this study, it denies that there is such a high level of air pollution on board and that they provide the highest level of safety for their passengers. They officially stated that they are working with major national and international government agencies to ensure the maximum level of safety for passengers and crew members and that air quality tests on their ships meet or go even beyond the required requirements.
However, research results showed that fuel emissions from liners contain harmful components such as metals and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons, also known as PAHs, in the air around the vessel, many of which have properties that can cause cancer.
